- Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2013It's now a year later. The product worked very well and I attacked on all fronts simultaineously and had success. Only when I had my carpet cleaned did it get no longer work. But the instructions will tell you this. I will use this again 'cause the beast has brought some in and is being attacked. Again it's all fronts. It's still hard for me to do this because I've become a codger and some of the funiture I can't move and that's when I use spray. But I highly recommend this product it's a bit messy but worth the effort. I did my carpet in two doses because I was impatient (not that I think a double dose made a difference)
This is now an edited later update. March 5th.I keep the same 5 stars. My poor old pound hound (came flea free) picked up fleas from a local park and it was sad to see how badly off she was with bites around her ears and tum, some red with some at the bleeding stage and hardly getting time to heal before there was another and she never got rest. I reviewed many product and decided on this and it was the best spent $40 ever. Lot's of products fail to kill the pupae.I put the FB into the carpets and for sure there's a lot of escape dust because the product is so fine some settled on furnishings I didn't cover. The carpet puffed some dust for a few days but that was ok (just keep your electronic equipment covered). It stated that it would take a about 3 to 4 weeks to show it's working and that it did. I left it for about a week before vacuuming so it would get a bit trodden in and I was a bit impatient 'cos some guys were still hopping (but tiny ones) so I gave the carpets another dose and began the vacuuming regimen again. I vacuumed every day after that and it sucked up those nasty little critters. It was worth it. I had to use a spray for under the beds because they were too heavy for me to lift. I tackled the problem from all fronts similtaneously. House, pet shampoo, topical(I gave that a three day pass before), and bedding and the spray. Peace at last....peace at last, great jumping dog treats,.... peace at last. I know that many reviewers discussed the toxicity issue and how they felt that this product improperly represented itself but eventually you have to assess whether you want your dog to continue suffering while you seek out alternatives and risk the pet consuming fleas or you take some chances, its a darned if you do and darned if you don't. Frankly the dog won't mind either he/she just wants to get some peace. I don't know why this product doesn't work for everyone but those pesky critters are like roaches, resilient, and dead crafty. It's worked for me although it was really strenuous (I'm not as strong as I used to be)however, my hound is at peace and so much so that she is currently propping her nose of this keyboard. Occasionally pressing on a letter and giving multiple ddddddddddds etc. I had success. I hope that you do too.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2025Flea Busters! the best, used it for years! Just rake into the carpet and you are Flea Free!!
And is completely safe for my cats!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2025We have multiple pets in our house and somehow brought fleas in! We spent hundreds of dollars on treatments and medicines before finding this magical powder! We put it down and worked it into our rugs and within a few days the fleas had subsided. We are now 3 months out and not 1 flea in the house! No smell and a little goes a long way so the value for your money is there!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2012*Edit* - I have raised my review one star, because after several months leaving the powder in the carpet, we have not had ANY fleas return. So apparently this stuff really does the job over time, despite the mess. Please still read the review though!
First off let me put the caveat out that this year has been TERRIBLE for fleas, even a CSR from Petmeds said as much when I called them. So I might possibly put a higher rating on this except I think this year we have super-fleas. I got my cats back from my pet-sitting inlaws after vacation and apparently their treatment had worn off early, and since the IL's animals go outside my boys got fleas. We didn't really notice until the problem was already pretty widespread, at which point I had to get a bunch of stuff to combat it (and we're not quite done yet, even).
The Fleabusters powder *seems* to be fairly effective even though I wasn't able to move much furniture for the application. I purchased it for $28 with Prime shipping, which wasn't terrible but more than I thought it should cost. The list price being $109, however, I figured I'd better grab it at that cost. The container is decent sized. We have a small house, 1400 feet finished (not including basement). I didn't treat 100% of the carpet because I wanted to make sure we had some left in case of re-infestation, but I treated the areas the cats hang out in. They don't spend a lot of time upstairs except near the bathroom so didn't do a lot beyond that and the hallway.
That said it does indeed seem that between the powder and repeated applications of Frontline and Sergeants, while I think there are still a few fleas around, nothing like it was. The cats were actually very crabby during the worst of it, because I believe the fleas were biting them often enough that they couldn't get a full night's sleep. At that point my husband and I even saw a couple of fleas jump on our arms etc. - plus when we tried combing the cats we found several that would run back into their fur or jump away. Since putting down the powder and using treatments on them we haven't really seen any except one or two on the cats. I still occasionally feel like maybe fleas jump on my feet or legs when at the computer for long periods but it may just be my imagination.
My only real complaint about the powder is that it comes out in 'clumps', i.e. it is a heavy powder that doesn't spread well from the bottle. The instructions say to use a broom to spread it into the carpet, but one of my rooms has a very tight woven 'patterned' carpet, and it was a difficult task to get it pushed out of the pattern and into the fibers. The job probably took over an hour for just a few carpeted rooms.
Also I made the mistake of leaving the ceiling fans on low while spreading the powder. I had a painter's mask on out of principle but it still stirred it up in the air so it was annoying even with the mask on. I suppose the only good thing to come of that is that as per the instructions, probably more powder made it into cracks. Definitely don't do it when children are around. I tried to keep the cats away as much as possible but could only keep them from walking on it, not being in the area. They don't seem any worse for wear, even though the instructions caution against letting them near it during application. Other cats might have problems though.
So it seems like the stuff helped a lot, but the mess and time it took were a bit much. I definitely wouldn't have paid full price over say a simple fogger or whatever else is out there, but it worked pretty well for $28.
