Our Golden Mystery Snails have dual benefits — they add a burst of color to your aquarium and also act as fish tank cleaners! They feed on uneaten fish food and other waste, plus they clean algae off glass or acrylic aquariums, aquatic plants, and decorations. They also eat hair algae and filter tank substrate to keep it the correct color. These peaceful snails grow large as adults, growing up to 3 inches in diameter, and are safe with any nonaggressive fish (such as Galaxy Rasbora), dwarf or large shrimp, and live aquarium plants (including Marimo Moss Balls).

Gold Mystery Snail shells are a bright golden yellow color, making them living fish tank decorations. Their bodies are pearly white with breathtaking iridescent markings. Compared to other freshwater snails, Mystery Snails are characteristically more playful and can often be seen scaling aquarium walls, extending their antennae in search of food on the aquarium floor, and climbing up aquarium pump tubing to the water line to breathe oxygen. Because of this, ensure the water line in your aquarium is low enough or keep an aquarium lid in place so your snails can’t escape.

We often ship smaller (.25 to 1.5 inches) snails so you can enjoy them longer and watch them grow. A young Mystery Snail can double in size over the course of two weeks to months.

NOTE: Contrary to what some websites state, Mystery Snails are NOT the same species as Apple Snails. Apple Snails are an invasive species and illegal to own in the United States. Our Mystery Snails do not grow to the tremendous size that Apple Snails do (often as big as an apple).
